At a senior level, I played a number of satellite events and tried hard to make it a career on the professional circuit, before becoming a mother. In 1989, I represented Australia at the Remington Family (Mother & Daughter) International event in Switzerland. Together with John Newcombe, Australia won the teams event. Mum and I came runner-up in the doubles final against Great Britain.
In 2005 I won the Australian Championships in Newcastle and then the NSW state titles at Campbelltown. I was fortunate enough to finish at the end of that year with a world ranking of number 3 for my age division.
In April 2006 I travelled to Durban, South Africa to compete in the World Champs. Things didn't go to plan with Australia finishing 7th and I went out early in the individuals. In 2009 I competed in the World Master Games that were held in Sydney, and was successful in taking out the 40 and over singles and doubles title. Adding another two gold medals to my collection.
Recently in 2017 I was the singles grand finalist and doubles winner in the NSW State Championships and in 2018 runner-up in the womens combined 35/40 doubles. In 2018 I was runner-up in the Australian Championships in the 45 and over singles event.
I still continue to play in the veterans tennis events around Australia and the world. Playing tennis has allowed me to meet so many like-minded people, and establish life long friendships. I encourage you to join a sport for life.
